Reminiscence
Reminiscence afternoons and events
FLC regularly hosts short reminiscence events, which are open to residents of nursing and residential homes and also to members of local community and farming groups.
Participants spend a couple of hours at the Centre, enjoying afternoon tea and a good talk about the old days, prompted by artefacts and reminiscence materials supplied by us.
We have recently welcomed residents from Gernon Manor in Bakewell to 3 reminiscence mornings.

Reminiscence resources
FLC has developed a number of “reminiscence boxes” which are available for use by community groups and residential/nursing homes. The box and its contents act as a stimulus for conversation and reminiscence. They can be of particular benefit to the elderly who are no longer able to live or work on the farm and for those suffering from dementia. Equally, they can be enjoyed by intergenerational groups or projects.
Each box has a theme and contains six to eight items – artefacts, photographs, poems, etc – which follow a particular farming related theme. Examples of our boxes include:
“Around the Farmyard”
“Bakewell Show”
“Seed Time and Harvest”
“Milking Time”
“Shepherd’s Memories”
Please contact us if you are interested in using our reminiscence resources.
